AprilAire has been building indoor air quality equipment longer than most heating and cooling brands have been making it.
Since 1938
Parent company Research Products Corporation started in Madison, Wisconsin, and AprilAire is still headquartered there.

AprilAire makes radon control equipment, and radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers. We don’t test for radon or install mitigation systems: in Illinois that work must be done by a professional licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).

What We Put in Most Homes
We standardized on three units. They cover the majority of homes in Elgin and the Fox Valley, and our trucks and our tune-ups are set up around them.
Our humidifier
AprilAire 720
Fan-powered evaporative with HydroCore. Adds up to 21 gallons a day and handles tightly built homes up to 6,250 sq ft, so it has headroom in a January cold snap.
Our dehumidifier
AprilAire E100W
Removes up to 100 pints (12.5 gallons) a day, covers homes up to 5,500 sq ft, drains on its own and reports humidity and filter status over Wi-Fi.
Our air purifier
AprilAire 1210
A 20×25 media cabinet that ships with the MERV 11 filter and takes a MERV 13, MERV 13 with carbon, or MERV 16 filter instead, depending on what you are trying to catch.
Different house, different answer: we’ll size up or down when the home calls for it.

Capacity is about the size and tightness of your home, not the size of the furnace. These are AprilAire’s own figures.

Dehumidifiers for Illinois Summers and Basements
A dehumidifier does what an oversized air conditioner can’t: pull moisture without overcooling the house.
- The E100W, our standard unit, removes up to 100 pints (12.5 gallons) of moisture a day and covers homes up to 5,500 sq ft

Filtration That Actually Fits Your System
A one-inch filter from the hardware store either lets particles through or chokes airflow. AprilAire’s media cabinets give you real filtration with the surface area to keep static pressure sane.

AprilAire FAQs
Do AprilAire products work with my existing furnace and air conditioner?
Yes. AprilAire whole-home equipment installs on your existing ductwork and works with the system you already have. It doesn’t have to match your furnace brand.
What humidity should my home hold in winter?
Most homes are comfortable between about 40% and 60% relative humidity. In an Illinois cold snap you may need to run lower to keep condensation off windows, and an AprilAire control adjusts for outdoor temperature automatically.
How often do the filters and water panels get changed?
AprilAire rates its media filters for up to 12 months, compared with every one to three months for a one-inch filter. We change yours at both your spring and fall maintenance visits, and we replace the humidifier water panel, filter or steam canister at the spring visit.
Is a whole-home dehumidifier better than a portable one?
For a basement or a whole house, yes. The E100W we install pulls up to 100 pints a day and drains on its own, where a portable unit handles one room and needs emptying.
Which AprilAire product should I start with?
It depends on the complaint. Dry air and static point to a humidifier, a musty basement to a dehumidifier, dust and allergies to better filtration. We’ll look at the house and tell you which one moves the needle.
Do you handle radon testing or mitigation?
No. We don’t install radon control systems or provide radon services. In Illinois that work has to be done by a professional licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.
