Where two amounts are shown, the specific model number decides the tier. Add $50 with a qualifying smart thermostat on the same invoice: $275 on a 97% furnace or $200 on a 95% furnace.
What This Looks Like on Real Equipment
The size code in the middle of the model number is the furnace’s input and blower size: 0804 means 80,000 Btu/h with a 4-ton blower. An Amana AR9S960804 or Daikin DR96SN0804 is rated 97% AFUE and gets $225 off. The same furnace with a 3-ton blower, the AR9S960803 or DR96SN0803, is rated 96.1% and gets $150.
Amana and Daikin modulating furnaces, like the AMVM97 and DM97MC, are rated 97% at every size on the list. We match the blower size to your ductwork and air conditioner first, then show you which discount that furnace earns.

Who Qualifies
Nicor Gas sets the eligibility rules. Here’s what matters for most homeowners.
Your Home
- You’re a current Nicor Gas residential customer
- The equipment goes in your primary residence
- Single-family home or a building with up to 2 units
- The name and address on your invoice match your Nicor Gas bill
- Own a rental? Landlords can still receive the rebate when the tenant holds the Nicor Gas account
Your Equipment
- New equipment only (not resale, rebuilt, leased or rental)
- Replaces a natural gas product when replacing existing equipment
- Installed between January 1 and December 31, 2026
- Not already rebated through another Nicor Gas offering
- The discount can’t exceed the equipment’s purchase price
Equipment Requirements

Gas furnace
- Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) of 95% or above
- The discount amount is set by the furnace’s AFUE rating: $225 at 97% or above, $150 at 95% or above
Furnace + smart thermostat bundle
- Furnace and smart thermostat must each meet their own requirements
- Both must be on the same installation invoice and application
- Limit one Nicor Gas smart thermostat per household or account
Smart thermostat
- Limit one Nicor Gas smart thermostat rebate per household or account
- Installed on a system with residential-sized natural gas space heating equipment
- Home must have a working Wi-Fi connection; thermostat must have features such as geofencing
- ENERGY STAR certified, or approved by the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency team
- Smart thermostats replacing programmable thermostats qualify
- Not eligible if you already received a Nicor Gas smart thermostat rebate through another offering, such as an assessment
- A ComEd thermostat rebate doesn’t disqualify you from the Nicor Gas rebate, and your electric utility may offer an additional rebate
High-efficiency boiler
- AFUE of 95% or above
- Residential-sized boilers with an input capacity under 300 MBTUH only
Combination boiler (heating + hot water)
- Provides both space heating and domestic hot water
- Residential-sized, with an input capacity under 300 MBTUH
- Minimum efficiency of 95% AFUE
- Sealed combustion unit capable of modulating its firing rate
- Installed with a programmed outdoor reset control
- Boilers with a storage tank and redundant or backup boilers don’t qualify

Nicor Gas Instant Discount FAQs
Do I have to apply for the Nicor Gas rebate myself?
No. As a Nicor Gas Contractor Circle installing member, we deduct the rebate from your invoice and submit the paperwork to Nicor Gas. You just sign the invoice to confirm you received the discount.
How much can I save on a new furnace?
Up to $225 on a furnace rated 97% AFUE or higher, or $150 at 95% AFUE or higher. Add a qualifying smart thermostat on the same invoice and the discount goes up to $275 or $200.
Why would my furnace get $150 instead of $225?
Nicor Gas sets the tier by the AFUE rating of your exact model, and the same furnace series can be rated differently by size. An 80,000 Btu/h Amana AR9S96 with a 4-ton blower is rated 97% and gets $225, while the version with a 3-ton blower is rated 96.1% and gets $150. We’ll show you the tier for your model before you buy.
Do Amana and Daikin smart thermostats qualify?
Yes, for the Nicor Gas discount. The Amana ATST-CWE-BL-A and Daikin DTST-TO-A and DTST-TOU-A are on Nicor Gas’s January 2026 smart thermostat list, along with AprilAire, Honeywell Home and ecobee models. ComEd’s heat pump thermostat discount uses a different list, so we’ll confirm both if you’re also getting a heat pump.
Can I get Nicor Gas and ComEd discounts on the same project?
Often, yes. Nicor Gas discounts cover gas equipment like furnaces and boilers, while ComEd instant discounts cover heat pumps. On a heat pump with gas furnace backup, each utility’s discount applies to its own equipment.
Can I combine an instant discount with financing?
Often, yes. The instant discount lowers the amount you need to finance. You can prequalify in about 2 minutes with no impact to your credit score.
I already got a smart thermostat rebate. Can I get another one?
Nicor Gas limits smart thermostat rebates to one per household or account, so a thermostat already rebated through another Nicor Gas offering won’t qualify again. A rebate from ComEd doesn’t count against you.
I own a rental property. Does it qualify?
It can. When the tenant holds the Nicor Gas account, the landlord can still receive the rebate. We’ll walk you through the signatures needed.
My home is on propane. Do the Nicor Gas discounts apply?
No. They’re for Nicor Gas residential customers. Propane homes, common in rural areas like Plato Center, can still get ComEd heat pump discounts if they’re ComEd electric customers.
Do Nicor Gas discounts apply in St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia?
Yes, for homes on Nicor Gas. All three cities have their own electric utilities, which rules out ComEd heat pump discounts inside city limits but doesn’t affect Nicor Gas discounts on furnaces and boilers. See our St. Charles and Geneva pages.
How long are the 2026 discounts available?
Equipment must be installed by December 31, 2026. Funding is limited, and Nicor Gas can change or end the program early, so it’s best not to wait until the last minute.
