Your discount is set by two things: the efficiency tier your heat pump meets and its heating capacity. According to the Department of Energy, an air source heat pump can cut the electricity used for heating by 30% to 40% on average.

What This Looks Like on Real Equipment
Tonnage is based on heating capacity only: heating capacity (Btu/h) ÷ 12,000 = heating tons. That line catches people. An Amana AZV6SA or Daikin DH6VSA sold as a 2.5-ton system is rated 28,800 Btu/h for heating, which is 2.4 heating tons, so it tops out at $1,500 even though it meets Tier 2.
Step up to a 3-ton Amana AZV7SA or Daikin DH7VSA, rated 35,000 Btu/h, matched with a Tier 2 indoor unit, and it’s $2,000 off, or $2,075 with a qualifying smart thermostat we supply and install. The same outdoor unit can land in Tier 1 or Tier 2 depending on the coil, air handler or furnace it’s matched with, so we price the full AHRI-matched system, not just the condenser.

Qualifying on paper and performing in practice are two different things. Our technicians hold Daikin TD-7 Ductless Install and Start-Up and TD-10 Ductless Service and Troubleshooting training. A mini-split that meets ≥17 SEER2 still has to be charged, commissioned and balanced correctly to deliver it.

Who Qualifies
ComEd sets the eligibility rules. Here’s what matters for most homeowners.
Your Home
- You’re a ComEd residential customer in an eligible ZIP code
- Existing single-family home, a multi-family unit on a ComEd residential rate, an addition or new single-family construction
- Installation is completed between January 1 and December 31, 2026
- More than one discount is allowed when each heat pump meets the requirements
- Own a rental? Landlords can receive the discount, including when the tenant holds the ComEd account and allows it
Your Equipment
- New equipment on the program’s qualifying equipment list, with an AHRI certificate at the required efficiency
- Installed by a ComEd Heat Pump-Trained Contractor (self-installation doesn’t qualify)
- Uses a refrigerant at or below 700 GWP, or is eligible R-410A sell-through equipment
- Smart thermostats are ENERGY STAR certified and purchased and installed with the heat pump
Eligible ZIP codes cover Elgin, South Elgin, Aurora, Bartlett, Streamwood, Huntley, Sycamore, Hampshire, Pingree Grove, Plato Center, Gilberts, Carpentersville, East and West Dundee and Algonquin. The program doesn’t cover Batavia, Geneva, Naperville, Rochelle, Rock Falls, St. Charles or Winnetka, and the eligible list leaves out the 60134, 60174, 60175 and 60510 ZIP codes entirely, including addresses outside those city limits.
What We Install, and Why It Qualifies
ComEd’s 700 GWP refrigerant cap and efficiency tiers are the rules. Here’s what they mean for the equipment we’d put in your house.
Refrigerant
Every Amana and Daikin system on the September 2026 qualifying list uses R-32, at roughly 675 GWP, under ComEd’s 700 cap. R-410A, the refrigerant in most systems installed before 2025, is around 2,088. ComEd allows remaining R-410A sell-through equipment as of July 27, 2026, but none of it is on the current Amana or Daikin list.
Efficiency
The top ducted discount requires ≥17 SEER2, ≥9.4 EER2 and ≥8.5 HSPF2. On the current list, Tier 2 systems come from Amana’s AZV6SA, AZV7SA and AZV9SA and Daikin’s DH6VSA, DH7VSA and DH9VSA variable-speed lines, while ALZT7C and DH7TC systems qualify at Tier 1. We confirm the AHRI match on your system before we quote it, so eligibility is settled before you commit.

Smart thermostat
- ENERGY STAR certified connected thermostat, such as ecobee, Honeywell Home T6 Pro Wi-Fi or T10 Pro, or the AprilAire Wi-Fi Thermostat with IAQ (S86WMUPR)
- Daikin and Amana branded thermostats aren’t on the current ENERGY STAR certified list used by the program
- Purchased from and installed by your heat pump-trained contractor along with the heat pump
- Smart thermostats submitted online or through mail-in rebates don’t qualify for the $75 instant discount
- Not installing a heat pump? ComEd offers separate smart thermostat rebates
Refrigerant
- Must comply with the EPA Technology Transitions Rule under the AIM Act: refrigerant global warming potential (GWP) of 700 or less
- Remaining R-410A equipment sold under the EPA’s sell-through rule (40 CFR Part 84) is eligible as of July 27, 2026

Do I have to apply for the CY2026 ComEd discount myself?
No. As a ComEd Heat Pump-Trained Contractor, we apply the instant discount directly to your installation invoice. There’s no application and no mail-in rebate.
How much can I save on a heat pump?
Up to $2,000 on a centrally ducted heat pump of 2.5 heating tons or more that meets Tier 2, or up to $1,000 on a ductless mini-split of 1.5 tons or more. Add an ENERGY STAR smart thermostat installed with the heat pump for another $75.
Why does heating tonnage matter?
CY2026 ComEd sets discount sizes by heating capacity only: heating capacity in Btu/h divided by 12,000. A system sold as a “three-ton AC” isn’t always three tons on the heating side, so we confirm where your system lands when we size it.
Can I get CY2026 ComEd and Nicor Gas discounts on the same project?
Often, yes. CY2026 ComEd discounts cover heat pumps, while Nicor Gas instant discounts cover gas equipment like furnaces and boilers. On a heat pump with gas furnace backup, each utility’s discount applies to its own equipment.
Can I combine an instant discount with financing?
Often, yes. The instant discount lowers the amount you need to finance. You can prequalify in about 2 minutes with no impact to your credit score.
Do R-410A heat pumps still qualify?
Heat pumps must use a refrigerant at or below 700 GWP, such as R-32. Under the EPA’s sell-through rule, remaining R-410A equipment became eligible for ComEd incentives on July 27, 2026. None of the Amana or Daikin equipment on the current qualifying list uses R-410A; it’s all R-32.
Which smart thermostats qualify for the extra $75?
An ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat that we supply and install with your heat pump, such as ecobee, Honeywell Home T6 Pro Wi-Fi or T10 Pro, or the AprilAire Wi-Fi Thermostat with IAQ. Daikin and Amana branded thermostats aren’t on the current certified list, so we’ll tell you up front whether your system’s control qualifies.
Can I get the $75 smart thermostat discount without a heat pump?
Not as an instant discount. The $75 applies when an ENERGY STAR smart thermostat is purchased and installed with a qualifying heat pump. CY2026 ComEd offers separate smart thermostat rebates if you’re not installing a heat pump.
I own a rental property. Does it qualify?
Yes. If you hold the ComEd account, you receive the discount as the account holder. If the account is in the tenant’s name, the tenant can allow you to receive the discount using their ComEd account information.
Do CY2026 ComEd heat pump discounts apply in St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia?
No. St. Charles, Geneva and Batavia run their own municipal electric utilities, and the program also excludes Naperville, Rochelle, Rock Falls and Winnetka. The eligible ZIP code list leaves out 60134, 60174, 60175 and 60510 entirely, so addresses outside city limits that use those ZIP codes, like Mill Creek, aren’t on it either. CY2026 Nicor Gas furnace and boiler discounts still apply for Nicor Gas customers. See our St. Charles and Geneva pages.
How long are the 2026 discounts available?
Installations must be completed by December 31, 2026. Funding is limited, and ComEd can change or end the program early, so it’s best not to wait until the last minute.
